Keith Richards' mother dies

The mother of rocker Keith Richards has died at the age of 91 of cancer.

The Rolling Stone, 63, had been keeping a vigil at his mother Doris's bedside since her diagnosis.

Richards extended his stay in London to be with his mother, who died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday.

The star's spokesman, Bernard Doherty, said: “Doris Richards, aged 91, mother of Rolling Stone Keith Richards, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday 21 April 2007.

“Family and friends request that their privacy is respected at this time.”

The rocker's father, Bert, died in 2002 at the age of 84
