Australian music personality Vince Lovegrove, who managed The Divinyls, has reportedly been killed in a car accident near Byron Bay, on the NSW far north coast.
It's believed the musician, band manager and AIDS activist was driving through Federal early on Saturday when the accident happened, according to Fairfax.
NSW police have confirmed one person died when a Volkswagen Kombi van crashed along Binna Burra Road, in northern NSW, between 1am and 3am (AEDT) on Saturday, but they are yet to formally identify the deceased.
However, according to the the Sydney Morning Herald website long-time friend and music writer Nikki McWatters has confirmed it was Lovegrove who had died in the crash.
'He had a remarkable energy and love of rock and roll and was a great friend to so many,' McWatters has told the SMH website.
'It has come as such a shock that he's gone. He'll be terribly missed,' she said.
Lovegrove sang alongside Bon Scott in the band The Valentines, before later introducing his friend to the other members of AC/DC.
In 1981, he became the manager of rockers The Divinyls.
Lovegrove later won the Television Documentary Award at the 1987 Human Rights Awards for his documentary Suzi's Story, which told the story of his wife's battle with HIV AIDS.
Suzi Lovegrove died on 14 June 1987, weeks before Suzi's Story was screened across Australia.
The disease also claimed the life of the couple's son, Troy, who was the subject of another documentary, A Kid Called Troy.
