AC/DC Australia's Family Jewels

04 Oct 2009, 07:19

the Arts Centre in association with Albert Music and Sony Music presents AC/DC Australia's Family Jewels

AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels celebrates the history, music, performance and creativity of one of the world’s greatest Rock’n’ Roll bands. AC/DC have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide since 1975 and continue to perform and record to great acclaim, ranking highly on all popular surveys of great Rock’n ‘Roll acts. Half way through their current world tour, AC/DC have already played to over 1.7 million fans in North America and Europe.

AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels will augment the Arts Centre’s existing AC/DC collection and borrow material from the band themselves, the Albert Music archives and many fans and private collectors. The exhibition will include important costumes, instruments, stage props, photographs and rare hand-written material such as letters, notebooks and lyrics. There will also be extensive moving image and sound material such as interviews, video clips and rarely seen performance footage, as well as published tour ephemera including exceptional early concert posters, programmes, backstage passes and AC/DC collectibles.

Exhibition Curator Tim Fisher says: “There is little doubt that after 35 years on the world stage AC/DC are by far Australia’s most successful and influential performing artists. AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels seeks to link the material history of the band to the experience of their music. The exhibition will also try to convey – both through exhibited material and an interactive online initiative – the place that AC/DC holds for their devoted fans.”

AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels is part of the Arts Centre’s Icon exhibition series; a major annual exhibition that celebrates the careers of Australia’s most internationally recognised performing artists. Since the inaugural exhibition in 2005, the Icon exhibition series has been an outstanding success, attracting over 1.5 million visitors to the Arts Centre. The Icon exhibitions are a unique and groundbreaking form of performing arts exhibition, for which the Arts Centre has a national and international reputation.

AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels, at the Arts Centre, Gallery 1 from 7 November 2009 until 28 February 2010.

THE Arts Centre is set to be shaken to its foundations with an AC/DC exhibition opening tomorrow.
Rarities include a leather jacket owned by late singer Bon Scott as well as his passport, handwritten lyrics to Highway to Hell and personal letters.
The free exhibition stretches back to the immigration papers signed when the families of Scott and band members Angus and Malcolm Young arrived in Australia.
It is the first exhibition the band have approved with items donated by Scott's mother.
Angus's sister Margaret has dug up two of his early costumes she made, and Young donated a prototype version of the schoolboy outfit he is now famous for.
"We've got the Super Ang outfit, which he wore on Countdown in 1975 and a devil costume that's rarely been seen," curator Tim Fisher said.
The band's formative years spent in Melbourne are represented with photos of gigs from the Council Club Hotel in Preston to North Altona Tech in 1975.
As well as one of Angus' custom-made guitars, live videos and archival interviews, their on-stage cannon has been shipped in.
"What I've found is that for 35 years AC/DC have put their fans first," Fisher said.
"It's always about giving their fans a really good time. AC/DC fans are among the most loyal in the world."

Il pourra, lui ou une âme charitable nous faire une review avec des photos... Parce que l'Australie, c'est pas l'envie qui manque mais ça va pas être possible là pour moi.
